Wedding in UAE
Introduction:
Every culture has special customs of everything. Wedding customs are different between countries. In this essay I will describe the wedding customs in the UAE.
Preparation:
First of all, the groom’s family visits the bride’s family to propose to her.
The groom’s family pays the dowry for the bride after she agrees. Next, the preparations for wedding start from $$$$ families. The bride start her preparation by shopping and buying her clothes, perfumes and make up sets. While the groom starts his preparations by renting the wedding hall, music band and buying furniture for their future house.
Al Henna night:
“Al Henna night or Lilat AL Henna” is the night before the wedding day.
It’s a special night where the bride’s family holds a small party. The families from $$$$ sides gather on that night. Women start putting Henna on their hands and feet and the bride too. “Al Henna” is a dark brown paste made from the henna plant. When left on a skin, it leaves a dark red stain.
The wedding day:
On the wedding day the bride goes to a bride’s saloon who prepares her for wedding party. For example putting a make up on her face and giving her hair a new look. Before going to the wedding hall where the party is being held, the bride wears a white wedding dress. Usually there are two halls for the wedding party, one for men and the other for women. In the party, women usually dance, sing, eat and have a great time together. The groom comes at end of the party to take his wife but after they eaten a special cake made for the wedding party together. Then they go to their home and build a new emirati family.
Conclusion:
In 1992, under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, a Marriage Fund has been set up in order to limit over spending on weddings and celebrations. The fund was aimed at encouraging the UAE men to marry UAE women, assisting in covering the expenses of $$$$ the wedding and the setting-up of a family, increasing the birth rate, and discouraging men from marrying foreigners.
